NEW BOOKS NO ALLE ARCHISTAR: IL MANIFESTO CONTRO LE AVANGUARDIE, Libreria Editrice Fiorentina, Florence, 2009: 352 pages. A concerted attack against today's starchitects and the society that promotes them. Many of the chapters do not exist in english.
ALGORITHMIC SUSTAINABLE DESIGN: THE FUTURE OF ARCHITECTURAL THEORY. (Notes from a series of 12 lectures, soon to be put together into a book. Individual chapters are available in PDF). Architecture and urbanism are presented as advanced applications of interactive computations. Each step in the design process on every scale corresponds to a computation. This series of lectures brings together geometrical constructs such as Cellular Automata, recursive growth, the Fibonacci sequence, fractals, universal scaling, etc. Few of these topics are currently taught in architecture schools.
1. ANTI-ARCHITECTURE AND DECONSTRUCTION, Umbau-Verlag, Solingen, Germany, First edition, 2004; Second Edition, 2007; Third Edition, 2008. A collection of my essays aimed at understanding the world's current infatuation with deconstructivism. This book is having a quiet but significant impact in re-orienting world architecture away from deconstructivism. 2. PRINCIPLES OF URBAN STRUCTURE, Techne Press, Amsterdam, Holland, 2005. A monograph consisting of several of my urban papers. Introduces the unifying notion of the network city to understand urban phenomena as components of a complex system. This book is meant to satisfy the needs of professional urbanists, students, and teachers who wish to understand how and why cities are successful or not, depending on their form, components, and substructure.

3. A THEORY OF ARCHITECTURE, Umbau-Verlag, Solingen, Germany, 2006. An innovative approach to design based upon my papers. I explain the foundations of architectural form using scientific concepts such as fractals, hierarchical scaling, complexity, and memes. This book is already used by many architecture students to learn practical methods, and is intended to initiate a new direction for building and design that breaks free from irrelevant images. 4. NO ALLE ARCHISTAR: IL MANIFESTO CONTRO LE AVANGUARDIE, only in Italian, Libreria Editrice Fiorentina, Firenze, 2009. A new book that combines recent articles in Italian, plus translations of related essays on how a starchitect culture has displaced architecture on the human scale, and has made the current pool of architects both irrelevant and unemployable. Includes chapters on ecophobia, skyscrapers, biophilia, geometrical fundamentalism, and an interview with Léon Krier. Comments in italian by Pietro Pagliardini and others on Archiwatch (January 2009).

6. INTELLIGENCE-BASED ARCHITECTURE (with Kenneth G. Masden), Umbau-Verlag, Solingen, Germany; free download of draft in preparation. We present a new model for architecture and the teaching of architecture, and give detailed suggestions for implementing a wholesale revision of architectural education. The new architecture relies directly upon mechanisms of human biology and intelligence. This opens up unsuspected possibilities for innovative design oriented towards understanding the interaction of the built environment with human physiology.
7. SOCIALLY-ORGANIZED HOUSING: A NEW APPROACH TO URBAN STRUCTURE (with David Brain, Andrés M. Duany, Michael W. Mehaffy & Ernesto Philibert-Petit). Evidence-based optimal practices are developed for social housing. Solutions towards long-term sustainability help to attach residents to their built environment.
